My easy Mongolian Beef is ready in 30 minutes and has tender beef, with a sticky sweet and salty sauce that his packed full of ginger and garlic.
Jump to RecipeI love recipes like this, no strange ingredients and dinner is on the table in a jiffy. Mongolian Beef is a simple dish that is often served with rice, but we also serve it with noodles or lettuce cups. I love the sauce so much with the saltiness from the soy and sweetness from the sugar, then the aromatics from garlic and ginger, its so moorish!
Ingredients in Mongolian Beef:
- Steak, I use sirloin steak, you can also use rump steak
- Cornflour
- Neutral oil, for frying
- Salt
- Root ginger
- Garlic, minced
- Soy sauce, or tamari
- Water
- Brown sugar
- Spring onions
- Sesame seeds
- Optional – chilli oil or chilli flakes
How to make Mongolian Beef:
Slice the steak into thin slices around half a cm thick. On your board, lay the slices flat, cover with cling film and pound the meat to flatten. I use a rolling pin, but a meat pounder is more apt! haha! Put the meat in a plastic bag with the cornflour and shake to coat. Massage a little to make sure each piece is coated.
Take a large frying pan on a medium high heat and add the oil. Once hot, add the steak to the pan in a single layer. Do this in batches so that it doesn’t boil. Cook for 1 minute, 30 seconds each side. Remove from the pan and set aside. Once all steak has been cooked, sprinkle with salt.
In the same pan you had the beef in, add the ginger and garlic to the pan, saute for 15 seconds, stirring constantly.
Add the soy sauce, water and brown sugar and bring to the boil. Add the steak into the sauce, and let the sauce thicken for around 30 seconds. Turn off the heat, add the spring onions and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Serve!
